Jo-Ann Savoie

Jo-Ann is a staff sergeant with the Hamilton Police Service. She is currently in her 22nd year of policing, assigned to Professional Development Division Quality Assurance. Jo-Ann is also a part time instructor at Fanshawe College and teaches Principals and Philosophies of Leadership. Prior to policing, Jo-Ann was a Logistics Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces. She retired at the rank of Major. During her time in the military Jo-Ann was awarded the Canadian Decoration (CD) and the Queens Golden Jubilee medal. Jo-Ann attended Dawson College in Quebec, and Westland College in California, prior to obtaining her Bachelor of Arts in Geography from Western University. She has since continued her education at McMaster University and earned a Police Studies Diploma and Risk Management Certification. She holds a Masters of Arts in Leadership from Royal Roads University and in 2016 completed her Doctorate in Business Administration from Walden University. Jo-Ann was entered into the Golden Key International Honours Society for maintaining a GPA in the top 10 per cent of her class. Jo-Ann’s Dissertation Skills Women Bring to the Position of Chief of Police was nominated for Dissertation of the Year and was recognized by the former Ontario Premier Wynn for her contribution to women in policing. Jo-Ann is currently enrolled in the Disney Institute of Leadership Executive Program through McMaster's DeGroote School of Business.

Jo-Ann’s work experience and assignments include: Uniform Patrol, Recruiting, Custody Sergeant, Crime Manager Division 10 & 30, Criminal Investigations Branch, Patrol Road Supervisor, Service Youth Co-ordinator, Community Mobilization Division Acting Staff Sergeant, and Executive Officer to the Deputy Chiefs.

Her community involvement includes YWCA Turning Point Giving Circle, Herstorian Ontario Women in Law Enforcement (OWLE), six-year term as President of OWLE, Fundraising Chair for the Women In Law Build, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity.

Jo-Ann also served as past Co-Chair Status of Women - City of Hamilton, Board Member on City of Hamilton Mayors Committee on Anti-Racism, Chair City of Hamilton Racism & Discrimination Committee, Chair Keep Hamilton Clean Committee, and Board Member and Judge for the City of Hamilton’s Trillium Awards Beautification Program.
