Mark Lalonde

Chief Safety Officer, Simon Fraser University
Mark Lalonde is the Chief Safety Officer at Simon Fraser University. He leads a team of more than 120 professionals who are responsible for all aspects of security, safety, emergency planning, business continuity, insurance and enterprise risk management for a campus community of forty thousand students, faculty and staff spread across three municipalities. In addition to his work with SFU Mark is also on the faculty of University of the Fraser Valley where he teaches a fourth year criminology course entitled Threat, Risk & Human Security. Prior to joining SFU Mark was Director of international operations for Xpera, a national risk mitigation and investigations firm. He has worked on human security, justice reform and risk mitigation projects in over twenty countries, including work for the United Nations in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Mark has an MA in justice and public safety leadership from Royal Roads University and began his professional career as a police officer in Vancouver
